There are several places in England which feature strongly in Scottish history, especially along the borders and in the very north of England. While places such as Berwick-upon-Tweed (South Berwick to the Scots) changed hands frequently other places were simply a tasty target for attack and plunder. The important city of York frequently appears in Scottish history and it is York that I shall introduce you to here... Read More

When I was a child I was lucky enough to have a short family vacation (I say lucky as it is surprising how few city kids get the opportunity these days) and a frequent destination was Devon. My father was a hard working guy and, sadly, our annual vacation was often more hard work. Firstly there was the drive down to Devon along congested roads in piping hot weather. The fact is that Devon and Cornwall are highly popular vacation destinations with both domestic and foreign visitors alike. Now most folk, including my family, head straight for the usual tourist traps and though these are highly enjoyable I now find other places far more interesting, I grew out of my bucket and spade a while back,  and I am far more likely to look forward to short city breaks than a trip to a sandy beach. One city which I find fascinating is Exeter, a city full of highly interesting, and often unique, visitor attractions suitable for all tastes and needs... Read More

UK vacations are extremely popular at the moment and while many put this increase (in the nummber of visitors) down to the low strength of the £ I would like to think that much has to do with the fact that there is simply so much to see and do in England, Scotland and Wales. Obviously the rich and long histories of each respective country means that there are plenty of fine country houses, fortified houses, castles and the likes. One of the places I am considering spending some time in early next year is the city of Nottingham... Read More

Indeed, France is home to many historic and interesting sites which are all equally captivating, which is why you might have a hard time knowing where to start. It doesn’t matter where you do, though, as long as you visit these top France attractions during your stay... Read More

Blackpool is an amazingly popular seaside resort on the English North West coast, which remains amazingly popular with tourists traveling from the close by towns which include Manchester, Liverpool, Warrington and more. The resort is also fanatically popular with folk from Scotland who turn up in large groups in a similar way to the groups of factory workers of old on their company day out. Sometimes it would appear that the seaside town is nothing but hotel accommodation and tourist attractions and although there is a great deal of Blackpool bed & breakfasts it is still best to book ahead to be safe. Accommodation varies from the cheap and chearful to first class. Many are on the sea front but, if you would rather stay somewhere far less lively you will find a few further inland... Read More

Madeira has an excellent climate best for a holiday trip. 17° centigrade during winter and during summer its maximum temperature is 29° centigrade. Such temperatures are tolerable. The climate is different in the whole island itself. There are great chances of rain when you go more on the northern part. If you travel to the southerly coast and go west from Funchal (the capital city), the weather is unbearable... Read More

The city of Bradford is situated in the English county of West Yorkshire. Lying near to the Pennines Bradford was ideally placed to profit during the time of the industrial revolution. In truth, during the nineteenth century, the town of Bradford was at the forefront of the Industrial revolution and the town very quickly became an important international centre of textile manufacture, especially in wool and the city of Bradford gained the name of being the world’s wool capital. As a result of the plentiful raw materials of soft water, coal and iron ore the town witnessed extremely rapid growth of its manufacturing base and an equally quick population growth. Sadly the textile industry fell into decline in the middle of the twentieth century. Since then the city of Bradford has developed into   a rather popular visitor destination with a a surprising number of hotels offering bed and breakfast accommodation in Bradford... Read More
