With rugged escarpments and clear azure water, Greece has a splendor like no other country. Western culture has long been influenced by the civilization of Greece. For visitors to Greece, I have compiled some helpful information.

Greece is officially known as the Hellenic Republic. Located in The southeastern portion of Europe, with borders on the south and east side formed by Aegean Sea, and bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, Greece is an ancient country. Steeped in culture, no end to a traveler’s wonder exists. It was the cradle of democracy, theater, philosophy, and the Olympic Games.

The capital and biggest city of Greece is Athens, a city with a well-known place in history, as well as a recent host to the Olympic Games. When traveling to Greece, note that they use Euros. Places that are less well known may also be less equipped to handle ATM needs, as many places have an “old world” atmosphere, so keep that in mind before leaving the more tourist-oriented areas.

Greece is part mainland, but also has numerous islands. The summer season is a good time to visit the many beaches on the mainland or the islands. The ferry system helps tourists to experience many of the islands. If you decide to go in winter, the Greek mainland offers excellent skiing. Whether in winter or summer, Greece offers many choices for travelers.

Greece is very well known for food. To enjoy a real experience of Greece, you must try some of the traditional dishes. Stifado, Greek salad, and spanakopita are some of the most popular Greek meals. The most popular, Souvlaki, a form of shish kebab, is made of meat and once-in-a- while, vegetables grilled on a stick, though a gyro is sometimes known as souvlaki. Pantespani, a sponge cake with orange-flavored syrup, is one of the best known Greek desserts. Not eating the food is not an option in Greece!

Limitless opportunities for fun exist in Greece. A top ranking team is the Greece national football team; try going to a game. If you like football, check out the Greek Super league. With sixteen teams, the professional league of football in Greece is a sure bet for a fun time. If sports float your boat, then Greece will not disappoint!

For devotees of history, Greece is the zenith of vacation locations. Without Greece, Western culture would not be the same as it is today. Throughout Greece you will find many historic sites. Visiting the Acropolis and the Parthenon is usually first on most people’s itineraries. The palaces on the island of Crete are another popular historic site.
