Located in Orange County, California, Newport Beach is one of the hippest body-surfing and swimming spots in southern California.
The Balboa Peninsula is a famous spot for body surfing because the waves are intense and intimidating. As a matter of fact, the waves can equal the ones from places like Australia and Hawaii. The waves are huge because of the improvements that were made to the rock jetties in the 1930s and definitely give surfers the thrill they crave with the right direction and swell.Though it may seem fun, there should always be safety precautions and only experienced surfers and even swimmers should attempt to conquer them. The Peninsula also offers more than just great waves.
Newport Beach’s most famous landmark is the Balboa Pavilion. It is a waterfront recreational center. They have fishing, arcades, and eating establishments.Balboa island is an artificial island created between 1908 and 1909. It has an established community on the island. It has the highest real estate rates in the United States, next only to Manhattan. Most residents on Balboa Island have their own boats or yachts. You can get from Balboa Peninsula to Balboa Island via The Balboa Island Ferry.
Another famous landmark in Newport Beach is the Newport Aquatic Center. Canoeing, kayaking, and rowing are popular hobbies and activities in this area. Athletes and Olympic swimmers train at the Newport Aquatic Center to brush up on their competition skills.Fashion Island is located near the Newport Harbor. Many celebrities and fashion-conscious California residents visit the famous Bloomingdale’s boutique to quaint specialty stores.
Another facility is the Newport Aquatic Center and it specializes in water activities such as rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and even outrigger canoe competitions. As a matter of fact, water sport athletes that compete in the Olympics train at the center. Newport even has a place for shoppers called Fashion Island that is located by the Newport Harbor and has more than 200 stores for your shopping needs.
